MidconBirth is an observational study that takes place in different hospitals and public centers where childbirths are conducted. The study takes place in different phases and will eventually incorporate centers from this country and others in Europe. 30 hospitals are currently taking part in it. The main objective of the study is to determine the proportion of single deliveries that are conducted with no obstetrical risk between the 37 and 42 weeks of pregnancy, with the support of midwives in the participant childbirth care hospitals and public centers. The results will be explored in terms of Health for mothers and children.
MidconBorth aims to constitute a first step to explore the results of the assistance offered by midwives, thus becoming the basis of a future investigation line that will explore the economical, organizational and health aspects related to the childbirth care in healthy women.
This study is part of the European project COST Action 1405 –BIRTH– and is funded by the Consell de Col·legis d’Infermeres i Infermers de Catalunya.
